This methodology for systems analysis takes a holistic view of an organization or system. It is particularly useful for complex analysis of situations that involve multiple groups of health care workers or intersecting systems. A wide to narrow approach begins at the sectoral level, moves to the systems and process level, and finally, analyzes the performer level. It is a practical process designed to encourage investigators to probe information received, re-interview specific stakeholders, or add other interviews they consider necessary to reach a conclusion.

FHI's Quick Reference Chart for the WHO Medical Eligibility Criteria
Family Health International (2004)
Download Resource
The World Health Organization (WHO) develops detailed criteria for determining which contraceptive methods are medically suitable for which clients. These criteria are based on the most current scientific knowledge on the effectiveness and risks and benefits of various family planning methods, and they can help health care workers guide their clients in making safe and informed decisions.

The criteria were recently revised based on recommendations made by an expert Working Group meeting held at the World Health Organization in Geneva, October 21-24, 2003. FHI has created a quick reference guide, in the form of a chart, that summarizes WHO's medical eligibility criteria for combined oral contraceptives, Noristerat, Depo-Provera, and copper IUDs.
