The problem with participatory design in ICT4D projects 2 February 2009

I thought this article posted at the ICTs for Development blog was informative: Participatory Design Problems in ICT4D: The Low Self-Efficacy Issue. The author argues that increased user participation is not always a good thing for ICT4D projects, even though we hold this up as something we always need more of. And that we software developers also need to understand our users’ psychological behaviors as well as programming, usability, training, user interface design, how to write documentation and everything else we need to know.
