Capacity Project’s HR Information Systems Evaluation Presented 24 July 2009

On June 12 at the PEPFAR Implementers Meeting in Windhoek, Namibia, the Capacity Project’s Samwel Wakibi presented results of the evaluation of the Project’s human resources information systems (HRIS) implementation. Wakibi shared findings and concluded that the Project’s approach impacts country-level health systems by increasing efficiency, data accuracy and quality as well as transparency of HR issues. The presentation generated rich discussion, including inquiries about the costs of implementing HRIS and the Project’s use of open source technology. Participants expressed a need for using a common, standard coding system and for sharing lessons learned in the development and use of HRIS. Representatives from Nigeria and Malawi voiced strong interest in implementation.
