Students Complete Peer Counseling Training for HIV Testing in Guatemala Print E-mail

In January, the Capacity Project, with USAID/LAC support, conducted a three-day training for university students to become peer counselors for HIV voluntary counseling and testing.

Thirty-six students pursuing health-related fields at five universities in Guatemala completed the training. They are organizing a Testing Day event in coordination with the Ministry of Health. Capacity Project staff and a regional consultant received training in the methodology and will replicate the workshop for students in Costa Rica, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Panama during the next two months.

These workshops are part of the Project’s work in Central America to improve pre-service education and provide expanded voluntary counseling and testing services through public activities.
