Second Phase of HR Management Program Completed in Kenya Print E-mail

The Capacity Project held Phase 2 of the human resource management (HRM) professional development program in Kenya from March 30–April 3.

The program is intended to develop and support a critical mass of human resources for health (HRH) leaders to build and advocate for effective strategies and HRM systems. Almost all of the 34 attendees took part in an extended session on sharing of individual or team projects that they had been working on since Phase 1. Examples included applying the HR Score Card, developing a concept paper for leadership development and mapping the staff discipline system in the health sector.

Participants engaged in rich discussions on the issues and obstacles that the presenters faced. This workshop introduced new topics like performance management, workplace environment, HRH financing and planning for effective implementation. Previous topics such as leadership, HR information systems and partnerships were explored further. The course evaluation was extremely positive, with one participant exclaiming, “This is only getting better, please keep it up!” The Project will conduct the final workshop (Phase 3) in June.
