IntraHealth International, Inc. (Lead Partner)

IntraHealth International has implemented projects to improve the quality and accessibility of health care services around the globe since 1979. As the lead implementing agency for the global PRIME Project in 1994, IntraHealth worked in 23 countries to train and support primary providers of family planning and reproductive health services. The follow-on PRIME II Project, launched in 1999, emphasized improving provider performance and ensuring sustainable systems for education and training. Bringing creative solutions to health care challenges, IntraHealth strives to create a future where developing countries have the right health care workers on the job, providing health-promoting and life-saving services where they are most needed. Areas of focus include applying systematic approaches to identify and solve problems in health care delivery, developing the capacity of people and institutions to improve health care services, strengthening education and training programs for the health care workforce, designing and adapting systems and tools to enhance the worker environment and improve quality of care and fostering partnership among providers, clients and communities.

IMA World Health

Established in 1960 as an association of church relief and development agencies, IMA World Health represents church-based health facilities and programs in more than 60 countries. Faith-based organizations often deliver 25% to 50% of health care services for entire countries, often in the most inaccessible and impoverished areas. IMA World Health provides comprehensive technical and material assistance for health programs of partner churches, faith-based development and relief organizations, service organizations and public agencies. Focus areas include: 1) program management, serving as a liaison between overseas partners and U.S. and international funders for project oversight; 2) financial management, including training and technical assistance in fiscal management; 3) strengthening of drug procurement systems, distribution structures and health care delivery systems; and 4) procurement services related to medicines and other resources essential for health systems development.

Jhpiego

Jhpiego helps to build sustainable in-service training and pre-service education systems that produce health workers equipped to achieve and sustain quality services. Jhpiego ensures quality through a holistic approach that considers institutional context, determines the root causes of gaps between desired and actual performance and designs interventions to close the gaps and measure progress. Known for its advocacy for health policy to foster quality of care, Jhpiego has developed or updated national guidelines in many countries based on the latest evidence-based practices.

Liverpool Associates in Tropical Health (LATH)

LATH provides a wide range of program management, consultancy and training services, and brings significant expertise in workforce planning and policy making and institutional development. LATH has managed human resources for health programs for the UK Department for International Development (DFID), the World Bank, the European Union and other government donors. LATH members have served on the Joint Learning Initiative on human resources for health and offered human resources planning support to ministries of health and other health sectors.

Management Sciences for Health (MSH)

MSH is a leader in global programs focused on health care organizational and institutional capacity building. Through the Center for Leadership and Management, MSH provides technical assistance to ministries of health to carry out comprehensive human capacity development assessments and design short- and long-term solutions to develop and sustain an adequate workforce. MSH works with counterparts in the public and private sectors to strengthen human resources management (HRM) systems, develop retention strategies and modernize the approach to HRM.

Program for Appropriate Technology in Health (PATH)

PATH helps enable communities worldwide to break longstanding cycles of poor health. Collaborating with diverse public- and private-sector partners, PATH builds human capacity to implement quality health care programs in reproductive health, vaccines and immunization, HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and children’s health and nutrition. PATH is a leader in developing and implementing communication strategies for social change, community mobilization and advocacy, developing and introducing appropriate health technologies, strengthening the capacity of health providers and systems and fostering public/private partnerships.

Training Resources Group, Inc. (TRG)

TRG has assisted USAID-funded health programs for more than 20 years and is widely respected for its effectiveness in facilitating organizational partnerships and strengthening local networks and institutions. As a partner in the PRIME and PRIME II projects, TRG played a significant role in establishing the Performance Improvement (PI) approach as a key methodology in international health programs and is recognized as one of the leading providers of training in the international development community. TRG maintains relationships with consultants in Africa, Latin America and the Middle East, and has worked in more than 115 countries.
